This is a Small and Not Great Britain pub! His name echoes an ancient Breton legend anchored on our shores. The City of Ys was based on the legend of the world's most beautiful city, built by King Gradlon, for his daughter. Le Hibou Grand-Duc, or "Hibou" to its friends, is a neighborhood bar, a very fashionable estaminet, a real headliner of the nightlife in Rennes. He knows coffee inside out, and knows how to prepare it, decorate it (the latte art is amazing!) and serve it at just the right temperature. Espresso routinely dethrones all other tastings, but here we learn that you can enjoy your coffee as mild as an infusion, making it aromatic and bitter-free (the secret of the Chemex), or strong and cold (thanks to the cold drip extraction method lasting 7 to 8 hours). A dozen coffees have been selected from small producers from Guatemala to Ethiopia, via Burundi and Colombia, and Renaud roasts them on site every week! At lunchtime, you can enjoy a cookie, a hazelnut banana bread or a slice of toast. The place, a touch retro, is calm and perfect for work or a break with friends.

At the Fox, tradition meets modernity: as in its homeland, this international pub takes on different faces depending on the time of day you enter. This coffee and patisserie enthusiast focuses on organic, ultra-short circuits and homemade products. This particularly cosy space, with its old stone walls and exposed beams, is the perfect place to enjoy a gourmet coffee, a pastry, a hot dog or even a raclette bowl, a creation for the end of 2023! Upstairs, the tower offers equally seductive rooms of over 30 m².

The old Saint-Etienne owes its name to the patron saint of the church it faces. The latter having been rehabilitated into a theatre now bears the same name as the bar. So be careful not to confuse your meeting place! A small old-fashioned estaminet in the belle époque style, there is little space inside despite a vast wooden counter and a few tables that occupy the space between the opera red walls and their gold mouldings.
