Things to see and do Grande-Terre

An enriching stop, not to be missed if you are interested in traditional Guadeloupe. Mrs. Bélair is the only person on the island who is striving, with a dissimulée passion, to raise awareness of this practice already practised by her father over years.

She installed a small museum that explains the tradition of fowls. You will be present in a real and rustic pitt Pitt (fighting there regularly) to a demonstration of the natural aggressiveness of the fowls and will have all the necessary explanations to better understand and appreciate a tradition still alive but unknown to visitors. You will be surprised by the fervour aroused by these battles. Sensitive Ames abstain!

Fowls take place from January to July. It is advisable to call for the schedules.

The tourist office will help you plan your stay in Guadeloupe's leading tourist region, which includes the communes of Le Gosier, Sainte-Anne, Saint-François and La Désirade. Information offices are located in each commune. The staff are trained to answer your questions, and to inform you of the dates of cultural and sporting events. There is a wide range of accommodation, restaurants and activities on offer.

For walking and water sports, the 2.5-kilometer-long Rivière d'Audouin flows into the Bay of Le Moule. It is fed by the ravine d'Arles and the ravine de Corneille. A number of private outfitters offer water sports, pedal-boat tours, canoeing and stand-up paddling in the mangroves. Remnants of windmills can be seen along the way. The river is bordered by the mangrove and its specific vegetation, cane fields, dry forest areas...
