Natural Crafts Côtes-D'Armor

The commune of Fréhel has two outstanding beaches: the beach of Anse du Croc and the beach of Sables d'Or, a seaside resort born in the middle of the Roaring Twenties. It is a real emblem of the beaches of Costa Rica during the summer season, and a famous surfing spot in the low season. You will enjoy discovering the only beach of the department to be south-facing and sheltered. Moreover, at the end of the Sables d'Or beach, you will discover another natural wonder: the dune arrow.

It is one of the highest places on the coast, which offers a magnificent view of the surrounding coastline. Very uneven, the point of Bihit is formed of a very resistant and ancient rock, gneiss 2 billion years old, one of the oldest rocks in Europe. Grey and sharp, it differs completely from the young granite, pink and round, which forms the island Milliau, its neighbor. You can extend the walk towards the fine sandy beach of Pors Mabo, facing south. You will then pass in front of the Roche mignonne, planted in the water.

Also called Lake Glomel, it extends over seventy-five hectares less than a mile from the village centre. Created in the Middle Ages, its dam was built in the nineteenth century, to store sufficient body of water so that, whatever the season, the proper functioning of the canal from Nantes to Brest can continue. Located in the community, its highest point, the summit pond between the catchment Blavet and that of Alder, is always the most difficult part of the work to supply during the dry season. Very pleasant tree-lined site, it is ideal for summer swimming and a number of water activities such as dinghy or kayak and various outdoor activities ideal for family vacation.

Starting from the Tidal Mill, along the Kerougant, the deep and wooded valley of the Traouïero, hides gorges lined with mosses and rare ferns. At the beginning of the 20th century, pink granite rocks were extracted there. Always visible, pillars supporting a bridge crane allowed the carts to move large blocks of stone. But legend has it that this chaos and vegetation would be a den of characters, sometimes fictional, sometimes real. Who is hiding in these caves and shelters: korrigans, smugglers? It's up to you to discover it....
