SUNSET CAFE

Bar and caf €€

As its name suggests, the interest of this establishment lies in the breathtaking view it offers of Lake Atitlán, which reaches its climax at the moment the sun sets. To be sure to have a seat and not miss anything of the show, it is better to come around 5:30 pm at the latest. Besides beers, some good - and expensive - cocktails are served, such as piña colada, margarita, mojito and strawberry or pineapple and lemon daiquiri. Special mention to the beauty of the open room, all in wood and overhung by a straw roof.

This Korean establishment opened in 2012 and specializes in quality coffee. Its origin changes every week: it is produced in Chimaltenango as well as in Santa Catarina Palopó and San Juan la Laguna. Mint, coconut, dark, white: several alternatives exist for chocolate lovers. The same goes for tea drinkers, who will be offered flavors directly imported from Korea. All this to be drunk in a nice little room or to take away. The icing on the cake: the possibility of buying a bag of coffee, ground according to your preferences.

Set in the heart of a lush garden, where the tranquility of the place is only interrupted by the chirping of birds, this establishment is full of charm. One sits in one of the comfortable armchairs to enjoy the signature drink: hot chocolate served with macadamia, honey-spiced chai, vanilla and orange-infused rum. There are also delicious breakfasts and brunches, as well as gourmet desserts, such as chai carrot cake, vegan cookies and brownies. Ideal for a break!

Slightly set back from the main plaza, this charming little room offers the visitor the opportunity to watch the locals come and go on the stairs that lead to most of the houses in the village, which are located in the hills. By the cup or carafe, the friendly owner serves coffee produced in Santa Catarina Palopó, tea from San Juan Chamelco, in Alta Verapaz, and chocolate from Retalhuleu. In addition to leaving with a bag of coffee or tea, you can also buy dishes, fabrics and jewelry.

We sit at one of the two tables of this charming little establishment to sip a tasty coffee of a rare quality, roasted on the spot, while enjoying a breathtaking view of the lagoon of Atitlán. You can also eat delicious breakfasts, good pastas and paninis, and, above all, excellent home-made desserts. All served by a very friendly staff. Moreover, it is possible to leave with a bag of coffee, ground or bean. A real hidden gem, located after the intersection of 2A Calle and 7A Avenida.

CROSSROADS CAFE

Having fallen into the coffee business as a child, thanks to his grandfather, the adorable Byron took over this Panajachel landmark on December1, 2020. He has kept the direction instilled by the former owner, an American answering to the name of Mike: to offer a meeting point - even a form of refuge - to locals as well as visitors from all over the world. In addition to the delicious drinks, there are homemade tiramisus, cookies and cakes of the day. Don't miss the explanation of how the seeds are roasted in the back room. A favorite!
