TÉLÉPHÉRIQUE DE TOCHAL

Funiculars and cable cars
5/5
1 review

The cable car, which connects Mount Tochal, part of Velnejak Avenue, north of Evin. Allow 30 min to cover 7,5 km. Seven intermediate stations occur before arrival (tea house). Youth unpacks on this mountain path. From the last station (restaurant), several hiking possibilities, including climb up to the peak of Tochal (3 933 m). Attention, even at the height of the summer, it is cool at this altitude. Superb views of Tehran. On the other side of Mount Damavand, the forest that begins shortly afterwards goes down to the Caspian Sea. During the winter, three ski runs are open to the public. The golden youth of Tehran, men and women alike, enjoy the joy of sliding and seduction.

There are two funiculars in Istanbul, with the same fare as other transportation in the city and which make the same trip between Kabataş and Taksim :

Funicular: very convenient. It connects the Zeitinburnu-Kabataş streetcar line with Taksim.

Tünel or "Old Metro". It is the second oldest subway in the world (1871) after London's, and it is still in operation. It was built by the Frenchman Eugene Henri Gavand to connect the city's business districts. It avoids the Galata slope and runs until late at night.

ATAC

Public transport
2.2/5
5 reviews

ATAC is Rome's public transport company. Buses often run late (the fault of Rome's traffic jams!), while the metro works quite well but doesn't serve the whole city - there are only three lines. In the historic center, walk whenever possible. The ATAC website provides maps and a route planner. Applications such as Moovit are also very useful, providing real-time timetables.

TUNNEL PRADO CARÉNAGE

Public transport
1/5
1 review

A 2,450-metre underground traffic axis, the Prado-Carénage Tunnel links the city's southern districts and the East motorway in a few minutes, in the city centre, and, to the north via the Old Port Tunnel, the Major Tunnel and the Joliette Tunnel, the Coastal Motorway. For a few euros, you can avoid traffic jams in the city centre during rush hour, and gain in speed as well, since it will only take you a few minutes to get from La Capelette to La Joliette. First toll urban tunnel in France. Possibilities of subscriptions and preferential rates for one or two tunnels: Prado fairing only and/or Prado Tunnel south only.

ASCENSORE MONTEGALLETTO

Funiculars and cable cars

Built in 1929, the Montegalletto elevator provides access to the heights of Genoa. The system is unique in Europe, and operates in a highly ingenious way. First, a small cabin transports you like a funicular along the rails of a horizontal gallery for around 300 meters... then suddenly, the gallery is embedded in a cavity, and the click: the cabin rises gently and is immediately transformed into an elevator! A unique experience well worth the detour, if only to experience the ingenuity of the mechanism.

VÉLOS EN VILLE

Getting around by bike

The introduction of the bicycle service is a success. Cycling to the Prado beaches is pleasant, but still too dangerous in the city centre. A cycle lane on the corniche is being prepared. The Marseilles association Vélos en ville is working for better consideration of this form of transport. A real fight on the scale of Marseille. In the premises, meetings around common reflections are organized, but also repair workshops. Bicycles must be democratized in the city and this will happen through the work of Vélos en ville.
