Closed - Open to 10h00

Poterie Friedmann has been in existence since 1802. The family is therefore Soufflenheim's oldest traditional potter. Today, the seventh generation has succeeded in preserving tradition while modernizing production. These objects are made from pure Soufflenheim clay, which withstands high temperatures. The beautiful round daubières can withstand gas. Decoration is carried out using the barolet, a small earthen vessel with a hollowed-out quill containing the colored engobes. You can visit the workshop any day of the week.

These master glassmakers, who have set up shop in a vaulted cellar nestled in a small interior courtyard, will show you their ancestral craft. For the pleasure of young and old, the workshop performs demonstrations of glass blowing. Open your eyes wide: the show is ma-gi-que! The master glassblowers manipulate the molten glass with a cane. They add oxides to the glass to color it before blowing it by mouth. Then they delicately shape it to create wonderful objects sold in the adjoining store.

SPELENHAUER – SPIESS

Arts and crafts

Dominique Spiess is a ceramist and Christian Fuchs, poêlier. They are artisans. Experts and associates too! They are among the last irreducible manufacturers of earthenware stoves in France, "stoves made from end to end and only from traditional", please remember Dominique Spiess. Their achievements are customized according to the tastes of each of their clients. They develop a project, advise. This careful fabrication, this work that demands patience and precision is punctuated by several steps. Project development completed, place to completion. To work well, you need good tools and materials. As a mason needs his cement, his two craftsmen use as a base material, clay. It is used to restore old stoves that are 200 to 300 years old. In other words, to make the nine with old! Other essential materials, tiles for carreaux tiles and bricks. Manufacturing requires some time… But it takes three weeks of workshop and three weeks for the jobsite. Their tiled stoves are visible in some historic sites, including the castle of Haut-Koenigsbourg. Their references are prestigious, from industrialists to the Kersauson family in Brittany, to castles in the Béarn, they bear witness to undeniable know-how and quality. If, however, you were in the vicinity, take the time to discover the work of these craftsmen so discreet and whose work deserves more praise!

HUBERT GARDERE ARTISAN DE LA PIERRE

Craftsman Work

If you want to discover the workshop, you need to call before you go. Hubert Gardere is a stone tailor. This artisan performs custom-made work for its customers. It carries out structures with engravings, sculptures, coats of arms, external fountains, older work plans, exterior stairs, interior stairs, leather walls, dry stone walls and stone walls. He went from creation to renovation of old buildings, wayside. The stones worked arrive from France and Navarre. His accomplishments require two weeks for a simple two-month dressing for a larger demand. The work is carried out from A to Z, from drawing to mouldings to laying. Little flash-back on the life of this craftsman. After completing his training of stone-cutter in Bordeaux, Hubert Gardere spent seven years working in Paris. He intervened on various remarkable sites in France: in the Louvre, the Pantheon, the Invalides, the Lery Castle, the Saint-Denis Basilica, the Senate, the Versailles Castle, the Van Gogh House at Auvers-sur-Oise, then Switzerland, Bern and the Beyeler Museum in Basel. Prestigious references. In 2004, he decided to take his account. He works with young apprentices and every Saturday afternoon for two hours for a public of young and adults, he gives courses of sculpture and stone size. If I dared to misuse the formula, I would say that'our craftsmen have talent '. This gentleman especially!
