LORRAIN LOCK
The only round lock left in France in its original state, it is now used as a water reservoir for the Allier.
On the Canal Latéral à la Loire, 3 km from Cuffy, discover the Lock des Lorrains, the only one of its kind in France. This round lock, built in the 19th century, is in perfect condition, with a 32-meter-diameter stone basin. Located near the Guétin canal bridge and a dam that drew water from the Allier to feed the canal, it enabled boats to pass from the Allier to the canal. Opposite the lock-keeper's house, it is a rare testimony to the ingenuity of the period, offering a peaceful setting and a beautiful stopover for history and nature lovers.
