CHÂTEAU DE BIRON
The castle of Biron is very often used as a film location
Château de Biron, built in the 12th century, is one of the 4 baronies of Périgord. It was a hotly contested strategic fortress during the Hundred Years' War. Burnt down in 1442, it was rebuilt by the Gontaut-Biron family at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries. Throughout its history, it underwent a number of architectural changes, including the creation of the double-columned loggia opening onto a stone staircase. Further renovations in the 19th century, in the style of Viollet le Duc, give it a remarkable architectural style today. Château de Biron is often used as a film location. Hearing-impaired visitors can follow the tours thanks to a sign language videoguide included in the Sémitour smartphone application. Visioguides in French, German, Spanish, English and Dutch are also available. We recommend that you take advantage of the services of one of our guides, who will make your visit even more exciting. In summer, the stone walls vibrate realistically with dinner shows based on the legend of the Headless Knight. Concerts and farmer's markets are also held in summer. The department's heritage department regularly invests the walls to create a dialogue with contemporary works of art. There's plenty of parking nearby, even for motorhomes. Don't leave without taking a tour of the small but charming village.
La visite est très agréable.
