BESNARD ISLAND
A peninsula with an abundant fauna and cliffs overlooking the entrance to the Havre de Rothéneuf, to be discovered in Saint-Coulonb.
Linked to the Pointe du Meinga by a sandy barrier beach at Les Chevrets, Ile Besnard has gradually become a peninsula as sand accumulates. Its high cliffs elegantly overlook the entrance to the Havre de Rothéneuf. Not so long ago, the land was farmed, but now nature has reclaimed its rights. Today, gorse, broom, heather and honeysuckle have repopulated the plateau, while armerie maritime and criste marine anchor themselves in the cracks exposed to the sea spray. The customs path around the island reveals an abundance of wildlife.
