CHÂTEAU DE LA ROCHE GOYON - FORT LA LATTE
An incomparable, virtually impregnable fort that transports us back in time, it has been pillaged and almost ravaged, except for the keep.
This old feudal castle, built of pink sandstone, stands on a rocky spur jutting out into the sea. Fort la Latte, also known as Château de la Roche Goyon, is an incomparable site that transports you back in time. Built in the 14th century, this virtually impregnable fortress, repeatedly besieged, belonged to the Goyon family, one of the oldest in Brittany. In the 16th century, the Ligueurs stormed the castle and succeeded in breaking through. It was looted and almost entirely destroyed, with the exception of the keep. Transformed into a coastal defense fort between 1690 and 1715, its protective system is still in place: curtain walls, towers, walls, drawbridges, dungeons and keep have survived the centuries. Gradually abandoned during the 19th century, it was declassified in 1890 and sold by the Domaines in 1892. It was largely in ruins when it was classified as a historic monument in 1925. Restored since 1931 by the Joüon des Longrais family, it has been used as a set for a number of film shoots: Les Vikings with Kirk Douglas, Philippe de Broca's Les Chouans and, more recently, the video clip for the song La tribu de Dana, by the group Manau, and the film Les Trois Mousquetaires (2023)! Today, it's one of the most visited castles in Brittany. Children will love exploring all its nooks and crannies, its guardhouse and its keep. From up there, you'll enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the entire Emerald Coast! Also worth noting: the fort hosts a major medieval festival in early August.

Closed in January. April to September: open daily from 10:30 am to 6 pm. October, summer vacations and weekends in March 11am-5pm. Free for children under 5. Adults: €7.80. Children (aged 5 to 12): €5.50. Group (20 people): €6.50. Students, high-school students, jobseekers €6.50. Vacation vouchers. Partially accessible to PRM. Children's play area.

Transformed into a coastal defense fort between 1690 and 1715, the castle of La Roche Goyon remains first and foremost a fortified castle. The 14th century defensive system is still in place .
Exceptional site and panorama.
The walls, entrance castles, barbican, towers, dungeons, dungeon, iron ball blasting furnace have survived the centuries.
Bricole, cannons, crossbows recall its military past. Its chapel is dedicated to St Michel.
Numerous panels are displayed throughout the visit to discover the defensive elements and the history of the fortress.
Amedieval garden with medicinalplants , a labyrinth of santolines and a vegetable garden make the visit more enjoyable.
Open every day from April to September. Open every afternoon in October, during school vacations and weekends in low season.
The castle organizes as every year, the Great Medieval Days during August: event postponed to 2023 as well as the Small Medieval Days special child every two years.
The Great Medieval Festival of the castle of La Roche Goyon - Fort La Latte will take place from August 9 to 12, 2023 with knights' tournament, falconry, show, medieval village, market, animations for the children, wooden games...
The castle is closed on December 25th and January 1st. The castle is closed annually from January until the winter vacations in February.
Large free outdoor parking - 800m walk to the castle.
Dogs allowed on leash. Accessible with a stroller (except the dungeon)
