Erected in 1873 in front of more than 10,000 people from all over the world, this statue is a meeting place for the people of Avallonnais.
Erected on the former Place d'Armes, in front of the Terreaux promenade, this bronze statue of Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban dates back to the 19th century: erected on October 26, 1873 in front of more than 10,000 people from all over the world, it is the work of the famous Bartholdi (who notably created the Statue of Liberty). Since then, the statue of this native of Avallonnais, the famous minister of Louis XIV who defended our borders and represented all the military power of France, has been a must-see for the people of Avallonnais.

Au delà de la statue qui trone à Avallon, c'est l'histoire et les oeuvres de Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban qui méritent que l'on s'attarde dans ce coin de Bourgogne.
