CHÂTEAU D'OSTERSTEIN

Perched on a steep hill with panoramic views over the town, Osterstien Castle is visible from afar. Its history dates back to the ^12th century, although it has undergone many transformations. Initially, it was a defensive fortress built to protect the town. Over time, it was modified to serve as a residence for local princes. Destroyed during the Thirty Years' War in the ^17th century, it was rebuilt. It now houses a museum presenting the history of Gera and the surrounding region.
