Noojee is a town of less than 200 inhabitants, halfway between the alpine resort of Baw Baw Mountain and Healesville. Its name is an Aboriginal word meaning "valley or resting place". The area was settled after the discovery of gold in the 1860s. Noojee became a major logging center with the arrival of the railroad in 1919. Destroyed by forest fires in 1926, the town was destroyed again during the Black Friday fires of 1939. The Noojee Hotel is the only building to have survived these disasters. Noojee is well known for the Trestle Bridge: an impressive 100-meter long trestle bridge.
