This castle is one of the best preserved residences of the Dukes of Burgundy.
In the 12th century, the Sires de Germolles built a barn on the Roman road between Beaune and Cluny, which was later transformed into a fortified house. The château became the property of Philippe le Hardi, who gave it to his wife Marguerite de Flandre. It is one of the best-preserved residences of the Dukes of Burgundy, and one of the few princely palaces from the Middle Ages still standing. A guided tour of the château, which has been awarded the "Maison des illustres" label, includes its magnificent English park, restored high chapel, châtelet and cellar.
