TOURS DE DÉFENSE

The 16 defense towers, which originally numbered 22, are the remains of Oberwesel's medieval fortifications, built in the 13th century. At that time, they were part of the city wall. From the boat you can admire the magnificent structures: the Hospitalgassenturm, the Steingassenturm, the Katzenturm or the Ochsenturm, the most striking tower with its crown of battlements. Some of the medieval fortification towers are named after animals, such as the Ochsenturm, the ox tower, or the Katzenturm, the cat tower.
