The Biebrza National Park is the largest of Poland's 23 national parks, and one of the largest in Europe. Its aim is to protect the extensive peatlands of the Biebrza valley, almost all of which it covers, from the source of the river to its confluence with the Narew. Its speciality is birds, and it is home to some 235 species, 157 of which nest in its heart. In spring, when the Biebrza floods, thousands of migratory birds gather here. There are no roads through the park, so the two options for visiting are hiking and kayaking (provided you have purchased a boating permit).
