Veliki Vodopad na Uni
54-meter-high waterfall in the beautiful village of Martin Brod. Other waterfalls and surprises await you here too.
This waterfall (Veliki Vodopad na Uni) is less spectacular than those at Štrbački Buk. Nevertheless, it's a beautiful waterfall, with the Una making a succession of jumps over a height of 54 meters in the beautiful village of Martin Brod (50 km south-east of Bihać via Ćukovi, Orašac and Kulen Vakuf). Thanks to a wooden footbridge, you can enjoy a beautiful panorama of this ensemble of water, rocks and lush vegetation. Downstream, an old abandoned mill completes the picture. Retracing the path in the opposite direction, then turning left into the "main street", you come to a suspended footbridge offering a view of another series of waterfalls. The street continues as far as the Martin Brod railway station, which ceased operating in 2010. Created in 1948, the narrow-gauge railroad line between Bihać and Knin (61 km), in Croatia, was notably used by the dreaded Krajina Express, an armored train of the Serbian Krajina army that plagued the region between 1991 and 1995, before ending up at the bottom of a ravine. However, the line could reopen in the next few years after renovation. So much the better, as its zigzagging route across the border offers a fabulous journey along the Una. In the meantime, Martin Brod offers a number of great walking opportunities, such as the one leading to the two abandoned tunnels 700 metres east of the Rmanj monastery. Dug into the rock to make way for an unfinished road along the Unac, they have become a haven for bats.
