Vodopad Štrbački Buk
The most famous site in Una National Park: four Una waterfalls, the largest of which is 24-25 metres high.
The magnificent "Noise of Štrbački" waterfalls (Vodopad Štrbački Buk) are the most famous site in the Una National Park. Located between Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia, they are accessible via three official park entrances: No. 1 (at Gorjevac, for 4 x 4), No. 2 (at Ćukovi, for pedestrians and mountain bikes) and No. 3 (the nearest, at Ćelije, 4 km away, for all). The Una descends here in a series of four successive falls, the first and largest of which rises to a height of 24-25 m. The setting is sumptuous, with thick vegetation and 200 m-high walls on either side. A small tourist area has been set up nearby (parking, restaurant and mountain bike repair shop in summer). You can also enjoy beautiful views of the Croatian shoreline. Access in this case is via Donji Štrbci/Доњи Штрбци (16 km south of Lohovo). This hamlet of Croatian Serbs (population approx. 10) gives its name to the falls, which are also renowned for the noise made by the crashing water. The falls owe their creation to a particular ecosystem: for some 40,000 years, microscopic algae, in particularAchnanthidium pyrenaicum, have favoured the production of limestone. This phenomenon has earned the Štrbački Buk and Martin Brod waterfalls a place on Unesco's Tentative List of World Heritage Sites since 2019. From here, rafting agencies offer trips down the Una to Lohovo (15 km). And it's not unusual to see skippers and brave paddlers jumping off the big waterfall.
