MONASTÈRE DE RMANJ
In Martin Brod, a Serbian Orthodox monastery dating from 1498, destroyed many times. Two churches, icons, magnificent scenery.
This Serbian Orthodox monastery (Manastir Rmanj/Манастир Рмањ) guards the entrance to the village of Martin Brod, next to a large aquaculture farm. Founded in 1498, repeatedly destroyed and reoccupied by monks since 2006, it enjoys a magnificent setting with the Unac canyon and Mount Šator (876 m above sea level) in the background. Its two churches are recent additions. The taller, more modern church is dedicated to St. John Chrysostom. The other, with its medieval appearance, dates from the 1980s. Dedicated to St. Nicholas, it features kitsch frescoes and 19th-century icons.
