Daloa, the capital of the Haut Sassandra region, is a large forest city of nearly 270,000 inhabitants located 400 km from Abidjan and 200 km from Man. It is thethird most populous city in Côte d'Ivoire after Abidjan and Bouaké, neck and neck with Yamoussoukro. It is populated in majority by Bétés. It is an agricultural cosmopolitan city that has developed over time with the arrival of Ivorians from other regions (mainly from the north of the country), but also of Guineans, Malians and Burkinabes, because it is at the heart of cocoa plantations mainly but also rubber, coffee and oil palm) which require workers since the advent of this lucrative agriculture. The climate is hot and humid.Daloa, also known as the city of antelopes, owes its name to "Dalo", the traditional Gouro hunter from the town of Zuénoula who specializes in hunting antelopes, a game that is abundant in the region. The town is also known for its traditional dance of the Guro people, the Zaouli mask dance. The first contact with European settlers dates back to 1893. But the first French military post was established in 1905, under the reign of the great Bete warrior chief Zoku'o Gbëli, who organized two revolts against the settlers in 1906 and 1907
