On the road to Kolda and 150 km from the border with Guinea-Bissau, Vélingara is first and foremost a crossroads town which is nevertheless a pleasant stopover in the heart of deep Senegal. Some campsites offer the possibility to sleep there. And for those who would like to stay an extra night, know that the surrounding villages offer warm visits to the inhabitants who have kept their traditional way of life. About 12 km south of Vélingara, notice the imposing crater of 48 km in diameter, which is believed to be due to a meteorite impact. Further on, near Paroumba, a three-kilometre long tunnel reminds us of the time of tribal wars.
