About ten kilometers east of Taravao, Pueu holds the record for the deepest lagoon in Polynesia with a depth of 45 meters! In addition to this anecdotal title, the town can boast the remains of the Taharoa marae, which once extended down to the river but of which, unfortunately, only the altar remains, despite the start of restoration work in 1975 - some of the stones were used to rebuild the Pueu bridge. The discreet town hall, built in 1946 initially as a school, is hidden in a vast garden. You can visit the temple of the evangelical church, rebuilt a few years ago in the same manner as the first building.
