Mataiea is one of the smallest communes in Tahiti, with some 5,200 souls. In addition to the Vaima spring and the Vaipahi water gardens, Mataiea is home to the church of Saint John the Baptist, blessed on November 1, 1858 during evangelization missions. The town is also the starting point of three bucolic hiking trails of 1 to 2 hours between basins, streams and waterfalls (exact departure from the Vaipahi gardens), allowing you to discover a wide variety of plant species. The heights of Vaipahi offer a magnificent panorama of the lagoon, the Rautirare pass, the Puuru motu and the Tahiti peninsula.
