Located in the associated commune of Toahotu, Mitirapa is the scene of the Polynesian legend of the Moorean twins, Fetunainia and Tapuute. One day, Fetunainia and Tapuute decided to challenge Tearataata, the warrior of Toahotu. Attacked by the land, Tearata managed to seize Fetunainia's spear and kill him. Arriving by sea, Tapuute discovered his twin lying on the beach; he embraced him and cried out in the Tahitian language: "My beloved brother, I collect the blood on the blade of your spear. Tearataata, you are the strongest!" Today, Mitirapa presents itself as a pleasant vacation spot; it hosts the Punatea Village guesthouse and a tourist residence.
