The small town of Bhadrajun is mentioned in the Mahâbhârata, the famous Indian epic. It is the result of the contraction of Shubadra and Arjuna. According to the legend, the latter fell instantly in love with the sister of Krishna. Its existence would go back to more than 5 000 years. It has a fort dating back to the 16th century belonging to the Rathore lineage of Marwar. Even today, the fort belongs to the same family, the 17th descendants of the Marwar maharajas. Away from the tourist trails, Bhadrajun and its surroundings allow to discover a very rural Rajasthan, where the herdsmen wear heavy red turbans.
