Allentown, Lehigh County, is Pennsylvania's third largest city in terms of population. It was founded in 1762 by William Allen, former mayor of Philadelphia and an important figure in the American revolution on the Loyalist side. The city of Allentown is best known for being the place where the Liberty Bell was hidden between September 1777 and June 1778, when the British occupied Philadelphia.
