This village is located along Highway 340 (also known as the Old Philadelphia Pike), approximately 7 miles east of Lancaster and 4 miles west of the village of Intercourse. Founded in the 1700 s, Bird-in-hand was originally a village-stage, crossed by travellers to the west. Legend tells us that two men decided to spend the night on the spot, in a hotel named Bird-in-Hand Inn, and one of them said: " A bird in the hand is worth more than two in the bush. " Bird-in-Hand has preserved its perfume of yesteryear and attracts tourists looking for local products.
