During the winter of 1776, the War of Independence raged. George Washington's troops wiped out several defeats and the independence army desperately needed victory. This is where George Washington and his 2,400 soldiers crossed the icy river of Delaware on the little day to attack German troops - hired by the British army. On the morning of December 26, Washington and his troops marched on Trenton and caught the German troops by surprise. With this bold plan, and its victorious outcome, the General gives a new impulse to the American Revolution and then marks a turning point in the war of Independence. The national park was inaugurated in 1917 to preserve the site and, every year, the spirit of this crossing is recreated in costumes on Christmas Day.To start the visit, first visit Memorial Building Visitor Center, where a documentary is distributed, and take a map of the surroundings. There is much to see from the cemetery of soldiers killed during the battle at Bowman's Hill Tower, which commemorates the Revolution through the many restored houses, testimonies of life in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in the region.
