KADAMBA SHRI MAHADEVA TEMPLE

Also known as Tambi Surla, this ^12th-century Hindu temple is the oldest in the state. It was built in basalt in the Kadamba style, founded in the ^4th century in Karnataka. This magnificent edifice is reminiscent of the temples of Aihole (Karnataka). The temple is dedicated to Shiva, worshipped in the form of a lingam placed on a pedestal in the center of the sanctuary. Legend has it that a King Cobra has taken up residence here. The temple is modest in size, but its architectural style is unique to Goa.
