Tuaran, 34 kilometers north of KK, offers nothing special, but can be a pleasant stopover on the way to northern Sabah. Curious visitors will appreciate its nine-storey Buddhist pagoda and the old wooden houses scattered here and there. On Sunday mornings, its tamu, a lively open market, is well worth a visit. The reputation of Tuaran mee, an egg noodle dish originating from Tuaran, has spread beyond the city's borders. The main reason for staying here is the magnificent Shangri-La's Rasa Ria, nestling on Pantai Dalit beach, where it's good to spend a few days away from it all.
