Loaka, a small village in the Mayombe region about an hour from Kakamoéka, is unique in its geographical location. It lies in the ecological corridor between the Conkouati-Douli and Dimonika protected areas. Many protected species migrate between these two areas, including gorillas, chimpanzees and elephants. However, as the region lies outside these protected areas, poaching is rife. For this reason, the ESI Congo association decided to set up in Loaka, in order to raise local awareness, create alternative economic activities and preserve these areas from poaching.
