BELFORT - BELFRY

The origin of this belfry dates back to the 14th century, it is the only one in the Netherlands. Square in shape with an inner tower and four corner turrets, the building contains many objects and works of art (Rubens, Van Dijk, etc.). It has suffered a lot over the years with a historic fire and the Allied bombings in 1944. It was completely renovated in 1960. The council room is superb. Note the magnificent wrought iron door. Don't forget to climb to the top of the bell tower (142 steps all the same) for a beautiful panoramic view of the region.
