ROMEINSE KATAKOMBEN - ROMAN CATACOMBS

These catacombs, a replica of those in Rome, are the work of Pierre Cuypers. The visits take you back to the Roman past and that of the region. The visit is an opportunity for an astonishing exchange on religion, art and archaeology. The catacombs are the initiative of Jan Diepen, the son of a wealthy textile manufacturer from Tilburg. During the visit, everyone is provided with a candle (from lamps to children) and one feels an explorer's soul growing.
