This incredible little village of 7,000 souls is situated at 2,000 metres above sea level, on high mountains with coniferous forests, which gives it the advantage of a cool climate in summer but rather cold in winter. Towards the end of September and beginning of October, the landscape is literally covered with flowers, providing visions of beauty. Tapalpa is characterized by its long wooden porticoes with balconies, cobbled streets and houses with tiled roofs uniformly painted in white and red. The village also has some interesting religious buildings (don't miss theHospital de Indios, converted into a traditional medicine centre), and its surroundings are full of natural resources as well as industrial remains from the 19th century(Herreria de Tula). One and a half hours south of Guadalajara, it can be reached via the bypass in the town of Sayula, internationally recognized as a leading cutlery center
