Located just under 300 km south of Puerto Vallarta, Barra de Navidad is a close peninsula between Bahía de Navidad and Laguna Navidad. The town was recognized for having been a major shipyard shortly after the Conquest, which in 1563 left the expedition of Miguel López de Legaspi, which was going to pave the way for the settlement of the Philippines, a islands discovered previously by Magellan, who was going to lose their lives in a battle with indigenous people. This new route was going to inaugurate a leading commercial road in the following centuries, connecting the Americas and Europe with Asia. Note that Legaspi took with him a predominantly indigenous crew: in today's Filipino language (tagalog), there are still many words of prehispanic origin, fruit of this little-known linguistic mix.The centre of this fishing village has barely six cuadras, which is easy to walk between small restaurants and beach shops. Note that his church has a global singularity: his Christ is not crucified but has the gall arms - in a hurricane of 1971, the refugees in the church found how they were going to get away from the flood… The village had a sort of tourist apogee in the years 70 to 90; it is now only a small shot of paint to make it a little more attractive, but the charm of Barra de Navidad is at its affordable prices, its human size and the harmonious manner in which it offers what one expects from a seaside resort - you on beaches (facing the ocean or on the islands of the lagoon) and above all doing it. a kayak at sunrise on its lagoon.
