This cultural centre also houses the information centre on the natural site of Albera. Created in 1986, this protected site covers 4,108 hectares, including the southern slopes of the Albera and Balmeta mountain ranges, and culminates at 1,257 metres (Puig Neulós). In Catalonia, it is also the only border protected site, as it continues in France. It comprises two very distinct sectors, that of Requesens-Baussitges and that of Sant Quirze de Colera, which is more oriental, with more Mediterranean vegetation. Its area of influence extends as far as Llançà and Portbou.
