TUDELA CASTLE - SANT GRAU
Discover the remains of Tudela Castle on a mountain bike route
In 1935, under the ruins of Tudela castle, traces of an Iberian village were discovered, probably dating from between the 4th and 2nd centuries BC. The excavations have never been taken any further since, and no visible structures have been excavated. As for the castle itself, the earliest records of its existence date back to the mid-11th century and link it to the Counts of Barcelona. The remains are modest: we can see the base of the main circular tower and the foundations of a few walls. The chapel, for its part, has been documented since 1548 and would appear to have been built on the remains of the castle's former chapel: the nave with its semicircular apse and the entrance door surmounted by a rose window, restored in the 19th century, are still visible. These remains are now on a mountain bike trail, and are not accessible by car.
