CASTLE OF SANT GREGORI
This former manor house, which belonged to the Margarit family, now houses a restaurant
This ancient manor house belonged to the Margarit family, whose first important figure appears in history in the mid-14th century, in the person of Bernat Margarit, a citizen of Girona. Towards the end of the 16th century, members of this same family were to be found in the highest ranks of power (Bernat Margarit II, advisor and squire to King Joan I) and the church (Joan Margarit, bishop of Elna and Girona, cardinal in Rome and humanist). Later, the manor became a simple masia (country house) and was abandoned for several years. Also known as the Château de Sant Gregori, it is square in shape, with three storeys framing an inner courtyard flanked by a four-storey square corner tower. Numerous restorations have been carried out over the years, the most important dating back to the 18th century. Today, it houses a restaurant.
