CARTELLÀ CASTLE
Discover this castle whose first documented traces date back to 1238
Although there are records of the existence of the Lords of Cartellà from the 10th century onwards, the first documented traces of the castle date back only to 1238, left by the priest of the nearby Santa Maria chapel. The building subsequently passed through the hands of the Xetmar, Milany and Pinós families, before finally being converted into a holiday home. The main structure of the fortress dates from the 13th century - three naves distributed in a U-shape around a courtyard - while the windows on the two upper floors are Gothic. The adjoining Romanesque chapel of La Esperanza, formerly dedicated to Santa Maria, was restored several times after its construction, as was the castle itself (in the 20th century).
