CASTELLUM FRACTUM
Don't miss the Castellum Fractum, a Roman fortress that was declared Catalan cultural heritage in 2012
Castellum Fractum is a Roman fortress occupied from the mid-4th to the early5th century, built on the remains of an Iberian village dating from the 6th century BC, of which a few remains of dwellings can be detected on the way to the castle. In the blink of an eye, it's easy to understand the strategic location of the site, dominating the surrounding area and even offering a view of the sea in the distance. It was occupied by the Visigoths after the Romans, before falling into disuse a few centuries later, probably around the 9th century. Although few of the walls remain intact, the sheer scale of the construction makes a real impact, and the 360° view over the comarcas surrounding the Gironès is breathtaking! The Castellum Fractum was declared a Catalan cultural heritage site in 2012.
