MUSEUM OF MEDIEVAL HISTORY CURIA-PRISON
Old gothic building housing a collection of objects and tombstones from the old cemetery.
Built in 1336, this old Gothic building integrated two key functions of the Middle Ages: the Curia, the court of justice, and the Prison, symbolizing the power of the Counts of Empúries in the town, the capital of the entire county. Facing the small square Jaume I, the facade of the Curia has restored Gothic windows. To the north, the Medieval Prison has a voussoir portal and is probably the only vestige in Catalonia of what was once a 14th-century prison. Inside, curious graffiti made by the prisoners of different periods have been preserved. The museum includes a room dedicated to the remains of the old Jewish community, with a collection of objects and tombstones from the old cemetery. The tour includes an audio-visual presentation of the city's history.

The Medieval History Museum of the Curia-Prison in Castelló d'Empúries (MHMCE) takes visitors on an exciting journey through the town's rich history, and in particular its medieval past. Housed in the historic Curia and Prison complex, which has played different roles over the centuries, the museum offers a detailed insight into the life and times of Castelló d'Empúries. The museum's collection is rich in artifacts, with archaeological treasures from the local Jewish community during the Middle Ages. Particularly noteworthy is the collection of Hebrew lapidaries from the medieval Jewish cemetery. The MHMCE is an integral part of the "Ruta del Pirineu Comtal: routes to the birth of Catalonia", which allows you to immerse yourself in the medieval origins of Catalonia.
