MAJOR REC
The Rec Major is the main channel coming from the lake of Banyoles.
It is the main canal from Banyoles lake. The city is crossed by the lake's water outlet channels and their multiple bifurcations. A section of the rec Major serpente under Plaça Major and, although the majority of the canals were covered during the th century, some parts of the water path were reopened and highlighted as part of the heritage of the city. On the square, the rec major arrives from the passage Abeuradors (where it is discovered), passes through the Rue du Born (underground), before re-emerging rue de Girona, continue its race towards the south of the city.
It is possible to observe it by entering one of the buildings of the square, such as Cal Moliner (tourist office), Ateneu or one of the bars: some of the canal's ramifications cross home homes.
