Bogra has only one rather limited point of interest, the palace of Muhammad Ali. However, with a few correct hotels, a very good restaurant and its proximity to the archaeological sites of Mahasthangarh and Paharpur, the city is an excellent base for two or three nights. One of the oldest towns in Bengal, it was founded by the emperor Enclave Ashoka (304-232 BC). Little prosperous at the time of the British Raj, it had only 7 000 inhabitants in 1901. Today, the population has 300 000 inhabitants and the city has specialized in the cultivation and marketing of the red pepper. It also hosted the first joint venture between the Danone and Grameen groups, which installed a yaourts plant there. This financial windfall has enabled the city to put in place a new urbanization plan: construction of bypass roads, widening of roads… The city offers a pleasant face, where it is pleasant to walk.
