Fabrications around the origin of the name of Pabna bloom. Our favorite is the legend of Pobana, a thief in the great heart Robin Hood. To thank him for his benefits, the inhabitants gave the name of Pabna to their village. The name more probably comes from the Persian word panmbah meaning «cotton», which referred to the many weavers in the village. Located at the confluence of the Padma (Ganges) and Jamuna (Brahmaputra) rivers on the railway road from Calcutta to Assam, Pabna was an important economic crossroads. During the British colonial era, the quality of Woven woven cloth only rivalisait with that of Tangail. The economy of this city of 145 000 inhabitants always revolves around weaving, mechanical and manual, but fabrics are much less beautiful than in the past. If Pabna cannot compete with Puthia and Natore, she still counts two interesting Hindu rajbaris and Temple and can deserve a little detour from Râjshâhî.
