This charming postcard village will make you love Bangladesh, if not. Lost in the countryside, only 20 km east of Rajshahi, this former royal area was the richest in Bengal under British Empire. The family of Puthia inherited the royal title under the Mughal empire but had to flee the country at the time of partition when Pakistan ended the Zamindar system. The family is living in India today. She left behind an impressive rajbari surrounded by beautiful Hindu lakes and temples. Easily accessible from Râjshâhî or Natore, Puthia deserves a visit that takes you half a day. Some sites are closed and you will need to find the maintainer who holds the keys. Prior to your visit to Puthia, look for Mr Vishuana, the former head of the Archéologie Archeology Department. Absolutely adorable, he speaks a very good English and nothing makes him more fun than exchanging with tourists. To find it, ask the traditional pharmacy (homeopathy and essential oils) that is located on the right after the temple of Shiva. She is kept by her son.
