SPIRIT LAKE CAMP

This historic interpretation centre is in fact one of 24 detention camps in Canada during the First World War. There were imprisoned nationals of countries considered to be enemies. Nearly 1 200 detainees and approximately 60 families of Ukrainian origin have «stayed». It is also one of the few sites where there is still a cemetery of the dead prisoners in camp, and note that 2015 marked the 100 th anniversary of Spirit Lake.
