Like Hyderabad, Sukkur is a major city (third in the province), a little anarchique, noisy and polluted, and an important point of commerce and industry. It would hold its name from the word «Sukh», which means comfort, reference to a time when the city was synonymous with abundance and pleasures. Today, Sukkur is mainly known for its dam, which is about 1,6 kilometres long, feeding a irrigation system serving the surrounding cultures. The building is responsible for major congestion and soil salinity problems. This is one of the reasons why the Moenjodaro-Daro site (which is about kilometres away) is under threat and cannot be searched in any more depth.
