Moenjodaro-Daro, literally the'mount of the dead ', was the centre of the Indus civilization, one of the most illustrious and ancient in history (the third millennium BC). A contemporary Sumerian and Egyptian civilization, the Indusienne civilization is the first major urban civilization in Asia. Yet his story remains ill-known and his writing has still not been deciphered. Located on the right bank of the Indus, the archaeological ruins of Moenjodaro-Daro tell part of this story. The city was built in the 1920 th millennium BC, and was not the subject of archaeological excavations until the early s. The first excavations revealed very sophisticated planning for the time, and other subsequent civilizations have never even succeeded in surpassing. Moenjodaro-Daro was reportedly abandoned at the end of the th century BC without archaeologists knowing why. Some believe that a natural disaster (earthquake or floods) would have forced the inhabitants to flee. Others are investigating the thesis of destruction by the invaders aryans in the middle of the Second millennium BC, but perhaps this is simply due to a change in the Indus course, which would have prompted the inhabitants to settle elsewhere. The urban ruins of Moenjodaro-Daro are the oldest and best preserved in the Indian subcontinent.
