Things to see and do Fuente De Cantos

5 km from the town, the oldest remains of this town, dating from the Chalcholitique (the third millennium BC), are located in the first Gisement I deposit, and account for a larger period for the second, Castillejo II, which houses vestiges from the Neolithic (4 th Millennium BC.) to the Romans. On this second site, you will notice the urban route and the robust defensive structures. Explanatory panels are located on both locations.

Since 2014, Francisco de Zurbarán's home has reopened, on the occasion of the 350 th anniversary of his death, after a great renovation of the places that allowed the spaces to be redistributed (rooms, rooms…) to construct a logical path and to equip him with leading-edge technological tools, transporting the visitor to the rural era and mystic lived by the painter and transmitted by his works. Audiovisual materials, videos and games of light and music, at the entrance, accompany the visit, an extremely didactic circuit on the author and his works even if it contains no original paintings. The first hall, Zurbarán, presents the personality of the painter, as reflected in his works and in the objects of his daily life (cups, plates, bodegones…), with a space devoted to his son Juan, unknown to the greatest number but who worked alongside his father and died very young. The second hall, Estrémadure, traces its monastic work since its return from Seville and the installation of its workshop in Llerena. Beginning with paintings like his famous Christ on the Cross (Cristo in la Cruz) of 1627, this stage will be decisive for its future since this type of painting will bring him numerous requests for work for different religious orders and will be the beginning of a huge notoriety. The third hall, Seville, reports on the great number of works devoted to the theme of the Virgin Mary, a means for Zurbarán, to use painting as a tool for spreading the Seville fervor of his time, in favor of this theme. Finally, the Pasillo de las Santas chamber presents, in small format, the countless saints painted by Zurbarán and the concern of the painter that they are identified in the future as bearers of his brand.

Fuente de Cantos is a charming town with many possibilities for tourists. In addition to the tourist office, tourists can also visit the Centro d'Información Cultural y Turística, located on the Plaza de la Constitución. What we see today is the result of the reforms carried out in the th century, on the original th century building, mainly the meeting in one nave of the three old ones. Inside, the paintings of the main chapel, the Evangélistes, the Seville school of the th century and the episodes of the life of the Virgin, as well as the main altarpiece, of Baroque style, where the image of Nuestra de los Los, of the second half of the eighteenth century is located. Another altarpiece contains the statue of the first Virgen de la Hermosa, the Aparecida, Gothic sculpture of the th century.

Located in a former post office, rehabilitated in 2014, it allows you to browse the artist's life and work on two floors. For example, there is an exhibition of work performed by children, on the theme of the pasos of the Holy Week, as well as a space presenting the workshop of a painter artist, with an explanatory table of the various elements presented, and a bust of Zurbarán, directed by the sculptor Angel Pérez Espacio. We will also learn that the town of Fuente de Cantos decided to integrate a fountain in the center of its coat of arms, on the model of that drawn by Zurbarán.

The church was christened Zurbarán on 7 November 1598. From the original chapel of the th century only the huge tower, known as the vieja torre, surrounds the main chapel. The th century saw the construction of the chore, the th century of the lateral doors and it was reorganized in the th century. The interior houses a major main altarpiece, also of the th century, made by Manuel García of Santiago, even though the image of the Virgen of Granada, ancient patron of the city, dates back to the th century. The baptismal fonts of white marble, of the th century, are also the baptism of Zurbarán.
