The Madonnas of the Trail is a series of 12 statues dedicated to pioneer women
The Madonnas of the Trail is a series of 12 statues dedicated to pioneer women, installed in each of the 12 states traversed by the National Old Trails Road, which crosses the United States from east to west for 4,983 km, between New York and Los Angeles. The 12 statues were created between 1928 and 1929 by artist August Leimbach (1882-1965), after being commissioned by the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR). This statue was in 2020 the site of a Black Lives Matter protest following the murder of George Floyd.
